    Deceased Narmadha (14) had gone along with her friends to wash clothes at the Angalamman temple pond in Pudhu Gummidipundi village of Tamil Nadu. Narmadha was playing with her friends when she slipped into the deep side of the pond.

    Narmadha’s friends Jeevitha (14), Aswatha (14), her mother Sumathi (age 38) and Jothi (age 30) tried to rescue her and jumped into the pond. When Sumathi’s son Aswanth saw no one coming up to breathe, he rushed back to the village to seek help.

    However, even before anyone could reach the spot, all five had drowned. Police and firefighters reached the pond and retrieved the bodies. Later, the bodies were sent to Ponneri Government Hospital for autopsy.

    With the sudden deaths of five people, including three children, the entire village of Pudhu Gummidipundi is now engulfed in sorrow.
