BJP takes dig at Mamata Banerjee’s ambition to go national, calls her ‘bohiragoto’

Agnimitra Paul, BJP MLA from Asansol, asked, “Now she is going to other states to do PR to be projected as the PM? Won’t she be a ‘bohiratogo’ in that state?”

At a time when Mamata Banerjee gave a call for united opposition to tackle the BJP at the Centre, the party’s Bengal unit took a dig at the West Bengal Chief Minister’s stand.

But Mamata Banerjee as she sought to go national, Agnimitra Paul, BJP MLA from Asansol and president of the party’s Mahila Morcha in the state, questioned her ‘outsider’ or ‘bohiragoto’ stand that she had resorted during the 2021 West Bengal Assembly polls.

The TMC on Wednesday observed its ‘Eksuhe July’ or annual martyr’s day program virtually on Wednesday. Mamata Banerjee addressed her supporters through video conference due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

However, giant screens broadcasting her live speech were put up in Uttar Pradesh, Tripura, Gujarat and Delhi for the first time. The Bengal CM, who spoke in Bengali, English and Hindi to reach out to her audience, gave a clarion call for opposition unity to tackle the BJP.

While speaking to India Today, Agnimitra Paul asked, “What happens to her calling people of different states as ‘bohiragoto’ or outsiders during elections? Now she is going to other states to do PR to be projected as the PM? Won’t she be a ‘bohiratogo’ in that state? Is she not contradicting her own statements?”

Mamata Banerjee and the TMC used the word ‘bohiratogo’ or outsider for multiple BJP heavyweights while they came to campaign during the 2021 West Bengal elections. The BJP had, back then, also slammed her theory of calling citizens of one’s own country an outsider.

As both TMC and BJP conducted programs to pay respect to their deceased party workers on the same day and at the same time, leaders of different regional parties including Sharad Pawar and Digvijay Singh assembled at the Constitution Club of India in Delhi to listen to Mamata Banerjee at the TMC’s event on Wednesday.

“I will be in Delhi from July 27 to 29. I urge Sharad Pawar Ji to hold a meeting anytime,” said Mamata Banerjee citing her seriousness to get going to tackle the BJP in 2024.
